Carel Nel is a multi-award winning South African Actor. After studying Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of the Free State he relocated to Cape Town where he has been working in Film, Television and Theatre. In 2012 Carel was awarded the coveted Fleur du Cap best actor award for his portrayal of the title character in ‘Die rebellie van Lafras Verwey’.In 2015 Carel was nominated for a Kyknet Fiesta award for best solo performance in his one man show ‘Slaaf’ which he co-wrote. In 2016 he was nominated for a Naledi Award and Broadway South Africa Award both for best supporting actor for his performance in Athol Fugards’ ‘People are living there’.  Carel has starred in over 20 professional theatre productions across South Africa.

Carel not only works in theatre but has been in numerous international and local films and Television shows including the Emmy nominated ‘Roots’, ‘Shepards and butchers’, ‘Young Ones’, ‘The Price of sugar’, ‘The Endless river’ and ‘Flight of the Storks’ just to name a few.  Carel was recently awarded Best actor in a Kyknet Silwerskermfees festival film for his performance in ‘HUM’ and he has also just been awarded best actor at this year’s 48 Hour film project for his performance in ‘The First week’.

Carel is currently filming the American Television series ‘Blood Drive’ in Cape Town.
