The Last Ranger has been shortlisted for the Best Live-Action Short Film for the Oscars 2025. This multi-award-winning short is one of 15 top short films in the running for a nomination, which will be announced on the 19th of January 2025.
The story centres around young Litha, played by the MLA's talented Liyabona Mroqoza, who is introduced to the magic of a game reserve by the last remaining ranger, and then poachers ambush them. Litha discovers a terrible secret in the ensuing battle to save the rhinos.
The Last Ranger was written by David S. Lee (Cindy's brother), and he also featured in the film. Other cast include Makhaola Ndebele and Avumile Qongqo.
