Mila Smith is a 20-year-old SAMA-nominated singer/songwriter and actor born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa.
Mila's dynamic career in music and television took flight at an early age. At 11, she formed an indie-pop band, Skyscrapers. Following their debut EP, 'Possibility' in 2016, their lead single, 'Just Kids', gained notable radio play. That same year, Mila became the face of M-Net’s December ad campaign with her song 'Megaphone'.
At 12, Mila starred in Season 2 of Disney Channel Africa’s Emmy-nominated kids’ game show, Disney Cookabout, where she won the season. That same year, she starred in Pieter Toerien ‘s Artscape production of Annie, playing Orphan Kate.
Although Skyscrapers disbanded in 2018, Mila signed with Apple’s creative artist services company, Platoon, as a solo artist. She was the youngest musician ever signed to the A&R agency. 2018, Mila also appeared in a commercial for the kids’ channel Boomerang Africa, where she lent her vocals to their Heritage Day campaign.
In April 2021, Mila made her solo debut with the release of 'Liars and Fakes,' a disco pop anthem that reached number 1 on the 5fm SA Top 10 charts for three consecutive weeks. Its Tensnake Remix amassed over 400,000 streams.
To create the accompanying music video, Mila collaborated with director Anna Telford, formerly of Butterfly Films, exploring her on-screen artistry both in front of and behind the camera. Following this success, she released 'Nice Guy,' a pop-punk hit, and 'Hide In Hell.' Both subsequent music videos, directed by Sandulela Asanda, showcased Mila’s significant involvement in the creative and performance processes, underscoring her dual talent as a singer and an actor.
In 2022, Mila matriculated with distinction in drama and secured the ‘Best Actress’ award at the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod. The following year, Mila released her debut EP, 'You Need Therapy. ' The EP, a testament to her dedication and artistry, was a labour of love artfully woven together.
In 2024, she made her movie debut in a lead role in Sandulela Asanda’s upcoming film, Black Burns Fast, which will be released on Amazon at the end of 2024. She also received a South African Music Award nomination for Best Pop Album for her debut EP, ‘You Need Therapy.'
Setting out on this journey as a creative, Mila Smith is ready to share her soulful essence with the world, moving mountains one song and one performance at a time.
