Soweto-born, Refilwe Modiselle, is an award-winning actress, visionary, master of ceremonies, motivational speaker, activist, voice-over artist, TV & radio host, media personality, founder of RVM Team Building Services and published author.
As an activist, her passion for changing the narrative of how people with albinism are seen has aligned her with organisations such as the UN, AU, Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International, Peace Corps & The Salif Keita Foundation.
Her acting career has been gradually built over the years, starting with small roles like in Akin Omotoso’s Tell Me Sweet Something, leading up to her big break in 2020/21, where she played the lead in the short film, White Gold, and won at PAFF(Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles) in 2021. Refilwe went on to win the Best Actress Award at TAFF (The African Film& Arts Festival) for the same film.
Refilwe has also starred in Showmax’s award-winning psychological thriller DAM Season 2, SABC/Netflix Law Drama Series The Executives and the Showmax romcom Forever Yena. Her most recent milestone was being a cast member of the first African ensemble for the award-winning American playwright Ntozake Shange’s For Coloured Girls, directed by James Ngcobo. After a successful run at the Joburg Theatre, I had the honour to perform at the VII Inspirational Festival of Arts in Moscow, which received standing ovations from a full house.
Affectionately known as Africa's first successful model with albinism, acknowledged by CNN, & Oprah's Power List 2013, Refilwe is a trailblazer who uses storytelling and advocacy to challenge beauty norms, amplify underrepresented voices, and inspire a generation to embrace their uniqueness with pride.
