Born on 12 July 1997 in Pretoria, Shaskia John’s exotic heritage derives from her Indian South African mother and Creole Mauritian father. She attended both public and private schools before embarking on a home-school trajectory qualifying her through Cambridge University. She has an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Nature Conservation.
Her passion for the natural world is evident in her career path as a current Masters's student in Nature Conservation at the Tshwane University of Technology. She has worked in various spaces within the conservation sphere, honing her expertise and love for nature, making her an excellent wildlife advisor for the film industry.
She was interviewed by international podcasters for her unique career path in both nature conservation and modelling. Shaskia is an expert in aquatic ecology and conservation and is an External Moderator in the Higher Education Sector.
She is certified to handle and remove venomous snakes. She has hostile training experience and South African Police Service competency clearance for business and personal use of handguns, shotguns, manual-loading rifles and semi-automatic carbines. She drives manual cars, off-road vehicles and rides motorbikes. Her lifestyle reflects a deep-rooted passion for conservation and sustainable living.
Shaskia has also embarked on a modelling career since the age of 16 with Boss Models, and has graced many magazines and newspapers locally, such as the Sunday Times, People Magazine, Grazia, Destiny, etc. Internationally she has graced the cover of Mauritian Scope Magazine and appeared in newspapers such as Le Dimanche, Le Mauricienne and Le Defi there.
Shaskia was one of the top 35 for the Miss South Africa 2019 pageant. Shaskia is also a creative. Her visual art has graced two poetry collections and the cover of the second collection. Her passion and skill in wildlife photography have garnered clients internationally.
She has appeared locally and internationally in various print, television and internet adverts for Coke, Rage, Jets, Cell C, Makro, Revlon, Virgin Holidays, Tresemme, Close-up, Colgate, Mr. Price, Edgars, SA Tourism, Youtube Go, Barclays, Puma, Guess, Juicy Couture, Standard Bank, Old Mutual, Kappa, Absa, National Lottery, and First for Women – Fearless. All this commercial experience has given her an opportunity to flex her acting muscles and is now ready to embark on her acting career with MLA.
Shaskia is also a social medial influencer with more than 50k followers globally and has partnered with various international brands in this capacity.
