MLA is delighted to announce that Namibian-British filmmaker, Perivi Katjavivi has joined MLA’s Director’s roster. Katjavivi is an accomplished director with his latest work, ‘Under the Hanging Tree’, which premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival 2023. ‘Under The Hanging’ Tree was also Namibia’s first submission for the 2024 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature category. His highly acclaimed feature film, The Unseen, had its world premiere at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival in Los Angeles and won Best Film at the Innsbruck Film Festival in 2016. Katjavivi is passionate about history, particularly Namibian post-colonial identity which is evident in his work to date.
“We have been following Perivi’s festival success with ‘Under the Hanging Tree’, very closely. Perivi is a multi-talented film maker who writes, directs, and produces much of his work. He brings a refreshing perspective to the screen, and we are delighted to have him on board.” says Nina Morris Lee, CEO of MLA.
When not behind the camera, Katjavivi spends his time as a lecturer in Information & Communication Studies at the University of Namibia, and is currently working on his PhD in History, through the University of the Western Cape.
“I’m extraordinarily excited about being repped by MLA and looking forward in taking the next steps in my career with them by my side” concludes Katjavivi.
